beach bound

Tarun and Rajesh convinced me to run all the way to the Goleta Beach Park during our morning jog. surprised i made it there and back, but at least i’ve got photographic proof.

Halloween

so i got dressed up… as an Oompa Loompa. went to the Q for a Halloween party which turned out to actually be fun. boogied on down all night long. my costume was hands down the best one there – too bad there wasn’t a contest.

Rocky Horror

went to a live performance of The Rocky Horror Show, and as i was a virgin going in, was quite the spectacle. was the first time ever performed in the Hole, and hopefully will become a yearly occurance in the future.

the long drive home

got up before the others and watched a little football. said goodbye to Greg and started the long drive back to Jackson Hole. took a different route back, and drove through La Barge, Big Piney, Marbleton, and Daniel before rejoining the original route. hoped to stop at the Moondance Diner which was relocated from Manhattan to La Barge, and since has been restored and is now a functioning diner strangely located in the middle of nowhere. but as it was closed, i found some great Mexican food in Big Piney instead. saw numerous pronghorns during the drive, and finally made it back home tired but safe. made the quick drive over the pass to pick up KaheƩ.

Flaming Gorge

got up late and ventured into Rock Springs for a quick tour. Had lunch at the local brewpub, then Greg drove me out to Superior, which is now virtually a ghost town. while reading some information on the old mining town, i learned there are nearby ice caves – but i couldn’t convince Greg to try and find them with me. next up was a multi-hour loop around the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, which was quite beautiful. during the drive we stumbled upon two groups of bighorn sheep. made our way back to Rock Springs, then decided to grab dinner at a sushi place in town. after dinner, we stopped by the bowling alley nearby Greg’s house. overall, was a very enjoyable day and night.

Green River

left midday to rendezvous with Greg down at his temporary home in Green River. was my first time in this part of the state, so the drive was very interesting as the geology and environment differ significantly from my neck of the woods. once i got to approximately Pinedale, started to see numerous pronghorn antelopes along the way. made my way past the oil fields and eventually into Rock Springs and Green River. was great to catch up with Greg and see Farson and Eden.

appliance upgrades

finally sprang for a new washer and dryer, and i picked them up in Idaho Falls last week on the way home from the airport. they look really nice, and are silent compared to the last ones. running them for the first time was almost exciting, although KaheĆ© was a little bit disturbed watching the clothes cycle in the washer. next up, i’ll be building a cabinet to enclose them.

timber!

one of the biggest lodgepoles was killed by beetles, and it was too close to the house for me to try and mess with it myself. got a professional arborist to chop it down, which was a pretty impressive sight to witness. looks like i now have lots of rounds to chop for firewood.

first snow

snowed on and off all day, but wasn’t cold enough to accumulate significantly. will probably be gone tomorrow, at least here at the house.

back to Wilson

got up early to shower and make coffee. broke down camp then headed back to the Cowboy Cafe for breakfast. a second day of looking at properties with a different agent, again the most interesting one was another 35 acre plot on the Wind River. finished up in the early afternoon and started the drive back home. made the bumpy detour to Brooks Lake Lodge atop Togwotee Pass, but the restaurant was closed. was great to make the trip in the summer, as my 2 previous snowmobile trips in the winter afforded no views of the lake. and as always, the views of the Pinnacle Buttes over Brooks Lake were amazing. driving back into Jackson Hole, the panaramic views of the Tetons were ruined by the 2 fires burning in the valley. swung by the ‘Winder on the way home for dinner and football highlights.
