again starting another east coast commute, but at least got my airline status for the year. ran into Sammy on his way to Hawaii at Squatters in the SLC airport. 3 1/2 weeks to go and i’ll be on vacation too… 🙂

climbed High School Butte (hope that’s not its actual name) and practiced kiting Mike’s speed wing. tough to keep it overhead, was tempted to spin it around multiple times and try my hand at flying it down. can definitely see myself learning to paraglide next summer. too many hobbies, not enough time to pursue them. who came up with working 5 days and only enjoying 2? need to reexamine my priorities…

printed up more tshirts and added some shameless self-promotion. not bad considering how quickly it was put together, and makes sense as i’ve had that “logo” for 20+ years already…

finally home during daylight and able to snap a picture of the new room with floor, walls, and ceiling. 8′ x 20′, but with a low ceiling. will stay unfinished for a while, but always nice to have more unnecessary space. 🙂

the crew from Kai’s went for a fancy breakfast, then it was on to the DZ. got in 2 early jumps, then ended up waiting a few hours for my third and final jump of the day. tried to catch the Greek Festival on my way home, but looks like i was a day late. uneventful drive, and in bed early to catch up on sleep.

hit snooze on the alarm and didn’t end up getting to Ogden until around noon. got in 3 jumps and got to wear my fancy new jumpsuit. hung out with some of the crew after the last load, went to 5 Star for dinner, watched some vids from the freefly team’s national championship in Chicago, and eventually crashed on Kai’s floor after a party at his house.

drove into Teton NP nice and early, and was hiking by 6:45 am. got some good views of the Kelly fire on the way up, which appears to be growing. Middle Teton is 12,804′, and i went up via the sw couloir – besides the elevation, the trail was 14 miles roundtrip. had a fantastic time, and learned a painful lesson about glissading on the way down. and i think i’ve had my fill of endless granite boulder fields for some time to come. 12 hours later i was back at the truck and driving home.

flew home and got to see another week’s activity on the roof. the new side roof looks great – amazing that it wasn’t done this way originally. will be nice not having the snow slide and block the front door now. crossed paths with a porcupine during my run along the river. had it been any darker, it could have been painfully problematic.

flew back to SLC instead of home last night. drove into Ogden and got a room at the Hampton Inn, which, obviously, was far nicer than my typical stays at the Motel 6. early morning start and got 4 jumps in during the day. left early evening and made the drive back home – good to be home, been more than a week. dark when i got in, but was able to review the progress over the week, including the columns for the side roof extension, the west facing window in the new room, more T111, and venting up through the new roofline.

got to Ogden in time to be on the first load of the morning. ended up doing 3 jumps during the day and had a blast. would have liked to squeeze in more, but promised Seth and Britt that i’d babysit for them tonight so they could go out. drove back down to SLC, and had a great time watching Roni and Cade for a few hours. another night spent in SLC and their comfy guest bed. flying back to OH tomorrow on Labor Day.
